IDC predicts that downloadable games sales will skyrocket from $54 million in 2004 to over $1 billion in 2008.

Using the PNI Digital Media Platform with integration into the in-store production environment where the retailer annually produces millions of photo prints and CD’s, PNI Digital Media enables the retailer to produce games on CD or DVD in as little as one hour. The DMP is integrated with the retailer’s online systems and in-store equipment just as it is for photos and music. The PNI Digital Media site experience is paramount in delivering retailers a game ordering site within which their customers will place transactions time and time again. The game store gives the retailer the ability to allow customers to search for games based upon genre, developer, rating and title. Once the consumer has found their favorite game title, they select which store to pick it up in and the PNI Digital Media Platform (DMP) does the rest.

Once the customer places their order, the DMP delivers it to the chosen location. The game title is sent in the manner necessary for the appropriate service time and the appropriate production equipment. The license(s) to burn the game is acquired from the game owner or licensor and delivered to the production center in the store. Emails are automatically generated to the consumer and billing information is automatically generated for the retail location.

Output options within the DMP include:

  • Direct to Store for “One Hour” production on digital labs from AGFA, Fuji, Konica and Nortisu or on dedicated equipment such as the Rimage.
  • Wholesale Lab for “Next Day” or “Mail to Home” service from wholesalers such as District Photo, Konica Wholesale, Photo Gift Company and TCN among others
  • Direct to In-store Kiosks with capable burners

The DMP routes any jewel case insert, jewel case cover, instructions and disc image along with the game title to the photo printing equipment. The complete disc and packaging can be produced and ready for pickup in as little as one hour.

With PNI Digital Media the retailer can now list every game title ever produced, given that it will still play on the current systems, and deliver it in a one hour format for the consumer to pick up in store.
